Movie Synopsis

On September 21, 2018, Ellen Jovin (Harvard College '87) set up a folding table on a New York City sidewalk with a sign that said “Grammar Table.” Right away, passersby began excitedly asking questions, telling stories, and filing complaints. What followed is the stuff of grammar legend. Ellen and her husband, Brandt Johnson, decided to take the table on the road. They visited all 50 US states (and were planning a stop in Puerto Rico, but covid intervened!), and Brandt filmed the grammar action. But this story transcends grammar. It’s the story of an epic quest to connect with people and bring us closer together in a divided time.

Languages Represented

Although the focus of the film is English, there are a total of eight languages represented—and many English dialects. The film celebrates and honors linguistic diversity.

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Distrito T-Mobile's Caribbean Cinemas theater, the Harvard Club of Puerto Rico is proud to host (free of charge) a special movie screening of Rebel with a Clause, followed by a Q & A with Ellen Jovin and Brandt Johnson, who will be in Puerto Rico with us!

IMPORTANT INFO:

1. The movie will start at 4 pm (run time: 90 minutes) on Saturday, February 8, so we recommend getting to the theater at least 30 minutes before the movie start time.

2. Also, please bear in mind that there is limited capacity for this event. We have rented out the theater from 4-6 pm, and have capacity for 40 people. We ask that you RSVP for the event only if you plan to join us.

3. Please RSVP to reserve your seat at harvardclubpr@gmail.com. We will keep an RSVP list on a first-come, first-served basis, and we will reach out the week of the event to re-confirm your attendance.
