Events Summary: 2022

3/16/22 Global Networking Night

Dear Members of the Harvard Club of Puerto Rico:

Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all!  We hope that 2022 is off to a good start for you, and we certainly hope to get a chance to see you at a Harvard Club of Puerto Rico event this year!

Harvard's Global Networking Night is scheduled to make its return on Wednesday, March 16. This free event (typically held in January) happens on a single day in multiple locations around the world, bringing thousands of Harvard alumni together. We are aiming to host a Puerto Rico event in person this year. So please save the date, and stay tuned for more details!

We are also looking forward to the return of our Distinguished Speaker Series, which brings Harvard faculty to speak and meet with Puerto Rico area Harvard alumni. Harvard will once again allow faculty travel for these events beginning in March of this year. More details coming soon!

Lastly, if you are interested in serving as a volunteer interviewer to high school seniors applying to Harvard College, we would love to have you join our team! Please email Margarita Montoto (montotoescalera@aol.com) or me (lopez@post.harvard.edu), and we will get you started!

Be sure to save the date -- again, that's March 16, 2022 -- for Harvard's Global Networking Night. Thank you!

Abrazos,
Andres

11/5/22 Harvard Moves

Dear Members of the Harvard Club of Puerto Rico:

Good morning! We are happy to announce our next Harvard Club of Puerto Rico event: Harvard Moves: 5K Your Way!

Here's how it works: you can sign up now to complete a 5K -- your way -- between Thursday, November 3 and Sunday, November 6, and come together with fellow community members from around the world to share in the Harvard spirit. You can run or walk in the neighborhood, hike your favorite trail, swim laps, go for a bike ride, or take a walk on a treadmill. Do it your way!
If you would like to join your fellow Harvard Club of Puerto Rico members, we will gather together on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 7:30 am in front of the Sobao bakery and coffee shop in Condado. We will walk to the Dos Hermanos Bridge and back to Sobao -- roughly the 5K distance, give or take a few steps.
In 2020, nearly 3,000 Harvard alumni and community members from 90 countries signed up to complete a 5K their way -- and many took their participation a step further by making a gift to support undergraduate financial aid. With your help, we can make an even bigger impact this year!

Participation is easy! Follow these simple steps:

  1. Pick a day between November 3 and 6 to complete your 5K in any way you want. Register here.

    1. As part of your registration, you'll have the opportunity to support financial aid for Harvard College students.

  2. The Harvard Moves event page has training resources, research, and even a download of a print-at-home racing/walking bib!

  3. Set your own pace, distance, and location -- options are unlimited!  And, of course, if you'd like to join an HCPR group, you can! We'll do a group walk on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 7:30 am.

  4. You can post your photos on social media using #HarvardMoves and tagging @harvardalumni.

Whichever way to choose to Harvard Move, have fun doing it your way!

And for those of you who would like to join us on Saturday, November 5, we'll see you there ... with bibs on!

Abrazos,
Andres

11/8/22 Distinguished Speaker Series (Dr. Josiemer Mattei)

Dear Members of the Harvard Club of Puerto Rico:

Good afternoon! We're already in November! Can you believe it?
We start off November with three things: a reminder, a save the date, and an invitation.

Reminder: Harvard Moves: 5K Your Way is this Saturday, November 5!
For those of you joining us live, we'll meet up at 7:30 am in front of the Sobao bakery and coffee shop in Condado. Don't feel like getting up early on Saturday? No problem! Do the 5K Your Way -- however you prefer -- any time between November 3-6. Register here.

Save The Date: The Game is coming up this month!
The 138th installment of The Game will take place at Harvard Stadium next Saturday, November 19. Join your fellow Harvard alumni as we spend a fun afternoon together. Details forthcoming!

Invitation: We invite you to our next Harvard Club of Puerto Rico event -- the next chapter of our Distinguished Speaker Series -- which will take place next Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 6:30 pm.
Our honored guest for the evening will be Professor Josiemer Mattei, the Donald and Sue Pritzker Associate Professor of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Professor Mattei and her HSPH colleagues have been conducting the largest and widest observational study of lifestyle and psychosocial risk factors of chronic disease among adults here in Puerto Rico.

The study is called PROSPECT. You can learn more about it here.

Come join us and learn more about this groundbreaking initiative and Professor Mattei's vision to improve health and nutrition in Puerto Rico!

The event will take place at the AC Marriott Hotel in Condado (Meeting Room 1), on November 8, starting at 6:30 pm.

As always, please RSVP to harvardclubpr@gmail.com.

Abrazos,
Andres

11/19/22 Harvard Yale Game Watch Party

Dear Members of the Harvard Club of Puerto Rico:

Good morning! Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend!

As promised, we want to provide you with further information about our next Harvard Club of Puerto Rico event: a Watch Party for the 138th installment of The Game. As you know, the Harvard and Yale football squads will take the field one week from today: Saturday, November 19, 2022.

We will gather at Eco's Sports Park in Hato Rey, beginning at 12 pm, next Saturday. Eco's Sports Park is located directly next to the Pedrin Zorrilla Coliseum and the Hiram Bithorn Stadium. Use the Domenech Avenue entrance to gain access to the facilities. (There is a $3 parking fee.)

There is no cover charge to enter Eco's Sports Park. Once there, you simply pay for whatever food/drinks you wish to consume. And, of course, then you can get comfy and all set to watch The Game -- which starts at 1 pm local time -- with your best Harvard Club of Puerto Rico friends!

That's it for now. Have a great rest of the weekend. We will see you at THE GAME!

Abrazos,
Andres
